Winning an American green card is a dream come true for some people here in Bulgaria. The Kazanlak area in central Bulgaria has had a large number of winners. Over 100 families in the last 10 years have won the card from there. Many of the winners are young, age 21 to 30. They have little education and work skills. 
Most say that they want to live their dream by moving to America. They are looking for a better life. Anyone who wants a green card must go to the American State Department website. There is no way to improve your chance of winning because it’s a drawing. Even if you win, it doesn’t mean you will actually get to move to America. The rules say that no more than 3,500 people can go to America from Bulgaria in any one year on a green card. So if there’s 5,000 winners from Bulgaria this year, only 3,500 can go. Any country that has had more than 50,000 people move to the USA on a green card in the past five years can’t enter.

Not only professionals, but also the students dream to get settled in US permanently after completing their studies. However, very few of them get successful in getting the US work visa or green card.

Getting a green card through family or employment is a time consuming process. The green card lottery seems an easier option. But the only drawback, if you really want to call it that, is the number of green cards available for each geographical region.
