Who Are the Best Drivers?

How to Cross the Street

Are women or men better at driving a car? In Bulgaria, there are more men that drive than women. However, more and more women are driving in Bulgaria now. People from other countries are warned that “drivers in Bulgaria are not very nice people.” The US State Department says, “Driving in Bulgaria is extremely dangerous. Bad driving, lack of good roads, and lots of new and old model cars are the problems. Heavy traffic and anger also increase accidents. Drivers of BMW, Mercedes and Audi are known to speed and drive dangerously.” Insurance companies want more money to insure young drivers in some countries. Men between the ages of 16 and 25 pay more than women. Young men drive with more emotion than young women. They are also more likely to break the law. Men often drive more miles in a car than women. Men are less likely to wear seat belts, obey the laws or watch their speed. Men will claim they have something called “spatial imagination.” This allows them to know where they are when they drive in traffic. Men say they can read a map and park a car better. People who study these things say that women have a body chemistry that men don’t have. So Women can focus their attention to driving better with less emotion or anger. A researcher says, “The thing about driving is that it is not a single skill. We know that in some driving skills men are better but they have more accidents. In other skills, like attention, women are better.” Driving in Bulgaria is very dangerous. The laws need to be strictly enforced. If not, Bulgaria will remain a country where it is unsafe to drive or walk.
